Frequently Asked Questions
What is coaching?
Coaching is a process that empowers you to make and exceed personal and professional goals. This can include excelling in the workplace, becoming happy and fulfilled at home, exploring your potential and achieving great ambitions. A coach partners with you in a thought-provoking journey that supports you in reaching deeper levels of fulfillment and success quicker and with more ease.
Most coaching clients are healthy, successful people who are stuck at a crossroads and ready to make a big change in their lives and want the support of their own personal coach to do so.
How does a coach help?
A coach gets you asking questions, having conversations, and experiencing insights and internal shifts, all of which can help:
· Clarify what you truly want
· Build on your innate strengths and talents
· Explore new perspectives and ideas
· End self-defeating habits and patterns
· Move beyond your comfort zone to greater achievements
· Create consequential action steps and provide accountability to accomplish them
· Celebrate your successes and learn from setbacks
How is coaching different from therapy, consulting, or a supportive friend?
Therapy is primarily for the purpose of diagnosing and healing mental illness or overcoming past traumas. Coaching, on the other hand, supports fully functioning and capable individuals in making desired changes in their lives and moving forward with intentional action.
Consulting is about solving specific problems and providing expertise, direction and advice. Coaches use well-crafted questions, as well as other techniques, to help you tap into your own experience, knowledge and wisdom, while promoting your individual growth and development.
A supportive friend can be a wonderful sounding board yet they can't provide the powerful questions and direction that a coach can offer -- or the objectivity. A professional coach gives you the safe space and confidentiality to explore ideas and actions you aren’t ready to share with family or friends. Once you are grounded in what you want to achieve, the unsolicited (albeit well-meaning) advice from those around you won’t throw you off track.
What is your coaching process?
We will start with a detailed conversation about the change, success, and achievements you want to reach. This sets the intention and direction of the coaching relationship. And when directions change with insight, we go there!
We will meet privately 2 to 4 times per month. Our meetings may be in person, via teleconference, or by telephone. Our discussions will focus on moving forward by tapping into your strengths and challenging old stories or obstacles in your way. I encourage progress towards your big goal each session by looking for shorter intentions, and together we create next steps to expand awareness of what is possible. By encouraging insight and action, our work together inspires you to reach beyond your comfort zone for greater success. In addition, I am available in between our meetings via email, text or telephone for any spot coaching or questions to keep you on track.
You set the conversational and goals-driven agenda for our work together and I am your guide to achieving your goals. Creating sustainable change is work that takes some time. My offerings start at 3 months as this period of time allows us to craft and implement a personal action plan for success, and create the lasting change you want.
